One:

The Impact

Her lavender eyes shone so brightly, it was as though they had a source of light of their own.  This was indeed, not a dream.  Her hair fell softly against her collarbone, dancing listlessly, set in motion by the churning of her jaw.  Her perfect smile framed the laughter spilling from her, the joy bouncing from her cheeks as she tossed her head back.  The radiance that exuded from her was undeniable.

“Sïana! We gotta get to the showcase!” a voice beckoned from somewhere else.

Sïana?  My eyes shot open, and were immediately drowned by the blackness all around me.  Where am I?  I pushed my hand in a circle to the side of my body, and found a disheveled sheet crumpled and dangling from the bed.  The few drips of light that trickled in between the venetian blinds barely colored my surroundings.  A hotel room.

I ran my hand through my curls, and felt my brain tingle as it worked to calm the disquiet and confusion elevating in my thoughts.  “Sïana!” I gasped, whispering her name to the night.  I’d come to find her.  But that dream felt as though I already had… She was so beautiful.

I pulled the sheet over my shivering frame as I struggled to piece together the threads of the dream.  Lavender eyes.  I turned on my side, and closed my eyes, hoping everything would flood back as I snuck off to sleep.  I knew Junior would be in to wake me soon.  Perfect smile.

But instead of my dream of Sïana, images of Elian being dragged by Na’Ile stained my retinas.  The anguish on his face amidst his struggle to release himself was palpable.  And I couldn’t stop it.  I didn’t stop it.  They have him!

“Hey, you ok?”  Junior’s voice crept in through the small crack in the door-jam that he’d created.  He checked on me almost every hour.  And with good reason.

“Yeah, just…stretching” I yawned as I twisted in the sheet.

“You know I always know when you’re lying, papule gal,” he snickered.

“Get outta my head, creeper!” I laughed, tossing an extra pillow at the door.

“You have a few more hours to rest.  You know where I’ll be,” Junior moved to close the door as he backed away.

“Well, maybe,” I called to him, halting my words.

“Yeah?” he asked, pausing in his tracks.

“Maybe you can stay.  There’s a couch in this room,” I turned on my back, propping my head in my hands.

In silence, and without any noticeable hesitation, Junior stepped through the doorway, and latched it behind him.  “I’ll be right here,” he assured me, sinking into the noisy couch cushions.  I turned back onto my side, and closed my eyes.  Sïana.  Elian.  My family.  Mahdi.  Josiah.  I’m coming.
