Book 1: Flight of Discovery – Character Profiles

Anaïs Faythor ~ A tomboy from a young age, Anaïs is the eldest of three children, born in a traditional, small, southern town (Ceevis Creek) in Georgia.  Anaïs has been described as pretty, although she does not play up her looks.  She is a sophomore in college, majoring in biology in order to enter into veterinary medicine.  She has always had an affinity toward and affection for nature.  Some of her earliest childhood memories include tending to her late grandmother’s (G-mom, as she affectionately refers to her), extensive garden.  Anaïs enjoys cooking, especially the meals and techniques she learned from her mother, Nina.  While the majority of her closest friends are rambunctious young men, she tends to shy away from being the loudest voice in a gathering.  Her best friend, whom she met at five years of age, is Elian Mafamille.  They grew up together in the same town, and went to elementary, middle, and high school together.  Anaïs is very close to her family.  So much so, that she eventually becomes overwhelmed with homesickness while away at school.

Elian Mafamille ~ Elian is a prankster and best friend to Anaïs.  He is the eldest of four boys, and became the man of his household when his disappeared unexpectedly, when Elian was still very young.  He enjoys the outdoors and goofing around with his friends, but is extremely intelligent, although he does not wish to enter college.  Elian has always been a protector of sorts to Anaïs, but only as very close friends.  He works at their high school, and considers becoming a guidance counselor.  Elian is very close to his family, and still lives at home in order to help his mother, who never remarried, with his younger brothers.

Jeffery (Junior) McVaugh  ~ The only child of Bishop McVaugh, a well-established religious figure across the nation, Junior lives in Maalaea, Hawaii.  He and Anaïs meet several times throughout their childhood during church functions since his parents are close acquaintances with hers.  Although they never considered each other friends, they have spent time together.  Junior is a very athletic smart-aleck that likes to verbally berate anyone he considers an easy target.

Katarina Abigania ~ A staunch, hard-nosed business woman, Katarina is a loner living in Southern California.  Extremely thin and petite, Katarina doesn’t let her stature overshadow her fierce personality.

Josiah Longmire ~  Just approaching his thirties, Josiah is a success hungry architect that relies on his extensive ego.  He is a firm believer that this is a dog-eats-dog world.  Josiah does all he can to afford his lavish lifestyle, and does not apologize for who he is.

Mahdi Colbert ~ Mahdi is also a sophomore in college at Anaïs’ school.  She is an athlete and fierce competitor.  Mahdi, generally very confident, is from Arizona and battling with desires to grow  beyond the expectations her family has for her.

Gray Jung ~ Also from a southern town, Gray is somewhat considered royalty, as his family was one of the original contributors during the Reconstruction Era.  He is the CEO of Josiah’s architectural firm, and runs a historical museum in his hometown of Eufala, Alabama.  Gray can be extremely unfeeling and difficult to persuade.

Ashlyn Rutherford-Jung ~ Extremely beautiful, graceful, and proper, Ashlyn is the epitome of a southern belle.  She is married to Gray, and is essentially the yin to his yang.

Nina & Fayette Faythor ~ Nina is Anaïs’ mother and caregiver while she was young.  Nina is a part-time career woman and mother of three, and dotes upon her children.  She relishes in the ability to cook for them and care for them as they need, however, she refuses to spoil her children in any capacity. Fayette is Anaïs’ father.  He is of French and Ethiopian decent.  His mother left Ethiopia at a young age, and met his father in France.  They lived on a ranch, and worked as farmhands, having 12 children, of which Fayette is the youngest.  After being sent to America for school, Fayette met Nina.  While he tends to be aloof, he is absolutely devoted to his family and works hard to provide for them.

Anthony Faythor ~ Anthony is Anaïs’ younger brother.  He is playful and caring, and protective of both his sisters.  He can be shy at times, but loves a good laugh.

Jaya Faythor ~ Jaya, Anthony’s twin, looks up to her older sibling, Anaïs.  She can’t stand to be apart from her siblings, and is overjoyed to be in their company.  Jaya is bubbly and always happy, no matter the company.
